Rexburg has seen many awesome color runs come through town. The people of Rexburg have proven themselves very willing to give and donate to good causes…and run, to do so. This Saturday, August 5, the 5k Color Fun Run will start in Smith Park.

This race, hosted by Wyn Medical, is to benefit the AJU Foundation. The foundation will use 100% of the registration fees to assemble and provide Smile Packages for cancer patients.

The AJU Foundation

The AJU Foundation is named for its founder, Alec J. Unsicker of Syracuse, Utah. Alec was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in his 4th ventricle when he was 11 years old. A year and a half of chemo and radiation treatments helped eliminate cancer from his body.

Unfortunately, at the age of 16, a new tumor appeared at the base of his spine. Following the same procedures, there was little change. Today, at age 19, Alec continues to battle cancer in his body.

Part of this was to start the AJU Foundation. Its premise is simple; to reach out to other kids with cancer and make them care packages to bring a smile to their face. Thus, the Smile Packages were born.

In his second battle against cancer, Alec knows the difficulty of the battle he and other patients face. But he hopes that through the efforts of AJU, that all will be inspired to keep up the fight.

The Color Fun Run

The cost of registration for the race is $22. All will go toward the Smile Packages and covers the cost of event participation and the swag bag.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. before the 5k begins at 8:00. A breakfast will follow at 8:30 a.m. You can register at the AJU Foundation website.

In the ever-raging fight against cancer, every little bit helps. With your donation and your time, you help put smiles on these kids’ faces. The people of Rexburg have long supported this incredible cause. This Saturday, you’ll have another chance.

Stay tuned for other events that AJU will host. The next will be the FORE Smile Golf Tournament in Layton on September 8.
