The walk was a self-guided tour through the events of that fateful day 16 years ago. For many, it was a heartfelt reminder of not only the tragedy, but of the overwhelming patriotism following the events. For others, it was informative, a wonderful teaching experience for those who were too young or not yet born.
The day’s events culminated with the Patriot Day Parade. It traveled from the northeast to the southwest corner of Porter Park, and included a short memorial ceremony. The Madison Fire Department Pipe Brigade also performed a touching tribute.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/2″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][image_with_animation image_url=”13458″ alignment=”” animation=”Fade In” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][vc_column_text]

The Writer’s Experience
I recall getting ready for school that Tuesday morning in 2001. My mom had the news on, as she did most mornings. I heard her exclaim in horror at something, and I came out to see what was wrong. As I looked at the TV screen, I watched in shock as the second plane plunged into the tower.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]As significant a time as it was for those who remember it happening, it still resonates today. We are a different nation now than we were then. But we were then, as we are now, indivisible. And the call for patriotism is still strong. Rexburg proudly represented the answer to that call on Friday.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/2″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]
A Time to Reflect
Today, we invite you to reflect on the events of that day, whether your memory of that morning is clear or nonexistent. Do you recall what you were doing? What were your thoughts? This significant event in our country’s history will forever be a part of our identity.
