The Purpose of Yoga
Stressed out? Worried about finals coming up? Can’t find a way to relax? Go to a yoga class! It turns out that Rexburg has plenty of places that offer a variety of classes throughout the week. The classes are usually in the mornings, nights, and weekends. You can get a monthly membership or pay $10 every time you go! If you are a student and trying to save money, BYU-Idaho has free classes in the Hart building! There are different options for everybody. If you haven’t tried yoga before, I suggest that you try out a class and you will leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
If you don’t know exactly what Yoga is, let me just tell you. It is a form of meditation that started in India, with the goal to unite the mind, body, and spirit. It’s composed of breathing exercises, poses, movements, and relaxation. It is a great way to slow down and calm your mind. Many people do yoga for mental health purposes, others do it to stay in shape, and many do it to stay focused amidst their crazy, busy lives. There are many purposes for yoga and it helps multiple people for all sorts of reasons. There are also several kinds. They range from basic breathing techniques to hot yoga where the room is over 100 degrees.
Hart Gym
There are several places in the area you can practice yoga. The Hart gym on BYU-Idaho’s campus offers free classes Saturday Mornings, along with Tuesday-Thursday nights. All you have to do is sign up at this link. The campus offers tons of other free classes including meditation, HITT workouts, aerobics, kickboxing, and cycling. You have to either be a student or faculty. They also require that you wear the approved shirt with black leggings for the girls or approved shorts for the boys.
Integrated Counseling
If you are looking to do yoga for mental health purposes, then Integrated Counseling is the place for you. Located in Rexburg, they have many different types of counseling services and you can do a private yoga session with your instructor and therapists. This allows for full privacy and optimized mental health. Visit their website today for more information and resources.
The Yoga Loft
The Toga Loft is located in The Rock Gym Rexburg and has classes every night of the week, including hot yoga! They ask that you arrive 10 minutes early and bring your own water bottle and towel. Regular classes are $10 and hot yoga classes are $12.50. You can also get monthly memberships ranging from $39-69.99. Classes are Monday-Thursday nights and every second Saturday at 8:00 a.m. All of their instructors are fully trained and want to help you feel more connected to your mind, body, and soul.
Rexburg Yoga
Rexburg Yoga is taught by Shelly and Leslie every Tuesday and Thursday Morning from 8:45-10:00 a.m., in the Ballet Arts Studio. Classes are $10 for drop-in and $52 for a monthly membership. Shelly and Leslie have been teaching for over 20 years, so they are very qualified. Leslie also teaches an evening class at Bodifi gym on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. That class is only $5 at the door.
The Yoga Studio
If you are willing to drive a little bit, The Yoga Studio is located in Rigby. It was founded by Whitney Raybould after she found her love for yoga in 2017. They have kids and adult classes, with a drop in price of $15 or a monthly membership ranging from $45 for students to an unlimited monthly membership costing $69. The classes are in the mornings and nights, Monday-Thursday, with Saturday and Sunday morning classes as well. Check out their website for more information.
