As a born and bred New Englander, I’m basically an expert on fall foliage. I grew up in an autumnal wonderland and when I first moved to Idaho, I was worried I wouldn’t get my fall fix. In the end, I had nothing to worry about because Idaho has plenty of gorgeous autumn views; you just need to look for them!

Since the snow seems to start sooner and sooner each year, make sure you take in these sights before the winter weather sets in for good!

Mesa Falls is beautiful this time of year!

Mesa Falls

Anyone else here obsessed with Mesa Falls? Whenever I need to get out of town, I head up to Ashton to take in this beautiful sight. Less than an hour away, Mesa Falls is a beautiful waterfall location with a scenic byway that will have you bursting with fall feels. It gets a bit chilly near the water, so make sure to bundle up!

Island Park is close to Rexburg and has lots of great fall colors.

Island Park

I’m not surprised that Island Park is home to many retired folks because guys, this place is stunning! Island Park is a prime spot in almost every season. There’s snowmobiling in the winter, fishing in the summer, and incredible fall views for a sliver of October. So, what are you waiting for? Island Park is only an hour away and the drive is worth it.

Try out the Palisades for fall colors!

Palisades Dam

If you’ve never taken a trip through Swan Valley, you are seriously missing out. I kid you not, driving through the Palisades is like a postcard come to life. Grab your friends, pick up some hot cocoa, and blast the tunes! Day trip this weekend? I think yes.

Targhee is a great place to see fall colors.

Targhee National Forest

As you drive through Ashton on your way to Mesa Falls, keep your eyes peeled for sights like this. The Mesa Falls Byway passes straight through the Targhee National Forest and this place is honestly #fallgoals. Take a trip during golden hour and you’ll thank me later.

Jackson Pass is stunning and great for fall foliage.

Teton Pass (near Jackson, WY)

Jackson, WY is one of my favorite day trips. Not only is this cute, touristy town full of fun, the drive there is breathtaking! The Teton Pass will always be an incredible drive, but it is particularly magnificent in the fall. You should probably go. Like ASAP.

Rexburg is also a great place to see fall foliage.

Rexburg

Were you worried I wouldn’t include good ol’ Rexburg? Psssht. Rexburg is gorgeous right now! Have you noticed? There are plenty of leaves to crunch and the colors are in their prime. Rexburg is literally golden. Take a drive past the potato fields and take in the sights. Before you know it, they’ll be gone for good. Or for a year. Either way, hurry before it’s too late!
