The Madison varsity baseball team will be playing a three-game series against Hillcrest this weekend. The two teams will be playing in this doubleheader for a spot to go to the state baseball tournament. Madison will host the first two games tomorrow Friday, May 5th, and if needed, the teams will play a third game at Hillcrest on Saturday.

“We feel good, really good,” says Madison head coach Art Morales. “We know it’s gonna be tough. They just have to come out and play the way they ought to play, and good things will happen for us.”

Madison’s boys came into the season with fire in their eyes, and they have delivered on the high expectations. Morales acknowledges the challenge that lays before them this weekend but has inspiring confidence in his boys’ ability.

“It’s our job to go out and dominate in every situation of the game,” Morales says. “Every pitch, every situation, regardless if it’s outthinking the pitcher, throwing on big counts, whatever it is. We’ve got to play every pitch.”

For such a deciding set of games, Morales has also worked to bring extra spirit to the game. He has invited fellow youth coaches, if their teams aren’t playing, to bring their boys in their jerseys out on the field with varsity pre-game while the national anthem plays.

“It’s going to be a nice day for baseball and an even nicer day for Madison baseball,” Morales told coaches.

The first of the two games tomorrow begins at 3:30 p.m. and the second will start 10-15 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Come out and cheer on Madison baseball as they play for a bid to the district championships and state.
