You can’t touch the true local essence of Rexburg until you have been to the farmer’s market on College Avenue.
What makes this weekly summer event such a standout? You’ll never fully know until you experience it for yourself. However, here we hope to highlight a portion of what makes the Rexburg farmer’s market so great.
Local produce
We’ve all heard about how important it is to buy local. And the case for shopping local is likely best represented in produce.
Local produce has not had to go through the rigorous process of shipping, boxing, and handling to the extent of imported produce. At the Rexburg Farmer’s Market, you get some of the best local produce around.
Enjoy the seasonal yield of Ashland Produce, Food Dudes, Grove City Gardens, and more. At the market you will find tomatoes, kale, carrots, all sorts of herbs, berries, corn, asparagus, to name a few. You can expect it to always be fresh, and always locally grown.
Local food
You can also get food that is all ready for the feasting. Check out local food trucks like El Elote Loco or World’s Best Corn Dog serving up a tasty diorama of corn dogs, shaved ice, burgers, aguas frescas, homemade tamales…and that’s just a start.
It’s fine enough to purchase produce and other goods to make a homemade meal. But sometimes you just want kettle corn from Jones Family Kettle Corn.
The farmer’s market is not just a great place to peruse the merch and look around. It’s the perfect place to find something good to eat.
Plants
Trying to liven up your living space? You’ll frequently see the BYU-I Horticulture Department, Deep Dirt Gardens, and other local florists selling beautiful plants of every variety, color, and maturity at the farmer’s market.
Whether you’re looking for a small succulent, a hanging basket, or something a little on the different side, take a walk down College and see what they have for you.
Homemade goods
Blue Bison clothing and apparel. Kimber’s Bath & Beauty. Ties. Woodwork. Even more food items, such as jams, honey, and other canned goods. The labors of our talented locals’ hands are always available at the farmer’s market.
Whether you’re getting a little something for yourself, or a gift, the farmer’s market has numerous options. Don’t just pick something up from the store. Get something with character, something locally made.
Reading about the farmer’s market is one thing. But one truly has to experience it for his or herself to not only see what there is, but to feel the sense of community at the market. Much of what we love about Rexburg is there at the farmer’s market. The ingenuity, the incredible food, the beautiful yield. You don’t want to let the summer pass you by without seeing for yourself.
The Rexburg farmer’s market is open every Friday this summer through September 29 from 4 to 8 pm. You can find it at 120 College Ave, one block north of campus.
