What is Camp Kesem?
Kesem was originally founded in 2000 at Stanford University. The camp provides a week-long summer camp experience and year-long peer support. It is run completely by volunteers who give their time and effort to make sure that they can send as many kids to camp as they can. The Idaho chapter started in 2013.
Jeffery Petersen is one of the many examples of kids that go to Kesem. At age 12, Jeffery moved to a new state and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer. His grades began to decline, he became depressed, and he had to rely on his siblings more than ever before. It was an incredibly hard and emotional time for him.
Because of the dedication and hard work of the volunteers, Jeffery was able to attend Camp Kesem. There he was able to connect not only with the counselors, but also with other kids his age that were going through the same thing.
That is the beauty of Kesem. It not only allows kids to become kids again by having fun and enjoy the outdoors, but it also helps them realize that they do not have to do this alone. Camp Kesem continues to expand in an effort to reach every child whose life has been touched by cancer.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][image_with_animation image_url=”11849″ alignment=”” animation=”Fade In” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]
