How to wake up in the morning when it feels impossible

Waking up in the morning can be so difficult to do! If you are anything like most people you hit snooze 10 times before actually deciding that you should get up or you’re going to be late to school or work. It’s worse in winter.

I would say you should go to bed earlier but most of the time that’s not really possible. You are up late working on homework or finding the time to finally veg.

We recommend that you try these tips to learn how to wake up in the morning better.

1.  Place your alarm across the room

How to wake up in the morning: put your alarm across the room.

If you leave your alarm right next to your bed it’s really easy to just reach over and hit snooze. Instead, try placing your phone or alarm clock across the room somewhere where you’re forced to get out of bed to turn it off. You’ll notice that by the time you get out of bed to turn it off you’re pretty awake. For better or for worse, you won’t feel like you need to go back to sleep.

2.  Drink something (preferably water)

How to wake up in the morning: drink water.

Drinking water in the morning is great for you and as an added bonus it helps wake you up!  Try drinking some cooler water because that will help wake you up more. Plus, who likes it any other way? Drinking water also forces you to walk to the sink, which helps you wake up.

3. Make it bright!

How to wake up in the morning: turn on lights.

One of the best ways for me to wake up is by turning on lights. This especially helps in the winter when it’s still dark outside when getting ready. My favorite thing is the daylight light bulbs that make it feel really bright and sunny indoors.

4. Wake up at the same time

How to wake up in the morning: wake up at the same time every day.

One of the things that I have found really helpful is waking up at the same time every day. Setting a schedule is important. It makes each morning feel like a routine rather than a chore. Even if you don’t have to be somewhere that day try and wake up still and work on other things or catch up on some TV.

5.  Make the choice

How to wake up in the morning: decide to do it.

Part of waking up without hitting snooze really does require you to choose waking up over going back to sleep. If you know you want to then it’s easier to stick to your plan. Make the choice and be happy about it. When your alarm goes off think to yourself, “I want to wake up because…” It gets so much easier with this mindset!
