The Rexburg Summer Theater Camp returns to the Romance Theater July 31 through August 4.

Ileah Bodily, director of the camp, emphasizes that this is a fun camp. While other theater camps may include a grueling regimen to train participants for Broadway, that isn’t the end goal of this one.[/vc_column_text][image_with_animation image_url=”12759″ alignment=”” animation=”Fade In” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]“It’s really fun,” Bodily says. “We do all facets of theater, we don’t just focus on acting and dancing. We also do singing and technical theater.”

Included in the training is behind-the-scenes theater, such as lighting or stage makeup. Bodily says they teach students how to do “gore makeup.” There is also a murder mystery dinner, which the students love.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]The day is dedicated to classes and training, and at night they do the activities and the students are cast in scenes.

“We teach such a wide range of things,” Bodily says. “So students who think they just like musical theater may realize that they really like the technical element. They have the opportunity to explore theater.”

That, Bodily says, is the essence of the camp. The Rexburg Summer Theater Camp is more about teaching and allowing students to apply the principles into their lives, and less about preparing “the next big thing.”

“It’s a really positive experience,” she adds.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]Bodily recalls an experience of one student, who started the week with such bad stage fright, despite her beautiful singing voice.

“By the end of the week she had grown so much and had so much more confidence, that she was able to perform a solo for the final showcase,” she recalls.[/vc_column_text][image_with_animation image_url=”12761″ alignment=”” animation=”Fade In” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]The showcase, which is a cumulative event open to the public, will be Saturday August 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the Romance Theater.

If you or your child wish to participate in the camp, registration is open until Sunday, the day before the camp begins. Visit the Rexburg Summer Theater Camp website for more information and to register. (The site will indicate that open registration closed on July 20, but don’t worry, the camp is still accepting applicants.)
